Tia's History

Tia a few weeks after bringing her home!

My husband and I "rescued" Tia in January 2010 from a home near Gatwick airport. The woman who previously owner her claimed that she had had a spinal condition which meant that she had had to have an operation to put rods in her spine and that she was therefore, no longer capable of walking a dog that pulled like Tia. However, when we arrived it was clear that this was not the case. Tia was absolutely terrified of her own shadow and was particularly uncomfortable around men. You could see every rib and vertebrae in her spine. She had no muscle at all and just shook the whole time. Yet her eyes were so gentle.

As you can imagine I had to take her home. She immediately took to me and would not leave my side. She also very quickly became comfortable around my husband too. However, introducing her to other men was a bit hit and miss. At first she would snarl and bark, hackles up whenever she saw a man and would cower away and shake terribly if they tried to touch her. After about 3 months she got to the point where she stopped the threats but just simply ignored men if they tried to come to her.

We also had problems trying to get her to eat. At first she wouldn't eat anything, which explained the skinny frame. Can you imagine she was almost 3yrs old, weighed 16kg and everyone thought she was a puppy! So after having her checked over by the vet we were advised to feed her a high protein diet (i.e. puppy food) and let her take her time. It took a while but eventually she went up to a healthy 24kg.

She is really well behaved and is a gentle kind of soul. She loves her runs in the park and has discovered her love for swimming LOL. Seriously, boxers usually dislike water but she loves it and it is great for building muscle and for heart health.

I am happy to say that she is now a well rounded healthy and loving dog and is very typical of the breed in many ways including having to have something to carry particularly on walks! She now also loves to be around people although she still likes to get to know you first LOL

People just cant help but laugh when they see her galloping at top speed around the park with her frisby halo! And this is how she carries it every time!!! So cute!

This bone goes everywhere, and is brought to you as a gift every time you come home!
